Soprano Naomi Katz Cohen is equally at home performing concerts, opera and musical theater. In May 2014 she was a featured soloist for the JAR/Ptisa concert, Songs of Nature, and in December 2013 she was the soprano soloist for the Bach Magnificat with The Glass Menagerie. A recording artist, she is the soprano on the recording Las Piedras del Cielo, on the Centaur Records Label. Another recent concert performance, “Angels in Jewish Music,” featured Naomi as a soloist, under the direction of Chazzan Natasha Hirschhorn. Prior to that, working again with Chazzan Hirschhorn, she premiered two works in the Shalshelet International Festival in December, 2010, including a piece by composer and professor Robert Ross. She was the featured singer with the West Hartford Symphony Orchestra for the 2008 pops concert. Other solo concert work includes The North American Jewish Choral Festival, as well as recitals and concerts for the Goliard Ensemble. Her opera performances include Queen of the Night in The Magic Flute, for the Amalfi Coast Music Festival, a role she debuted with the New York Metro Vocal Arts Ensemble. Other opera roles include Olympia in Les Contes D’Hoffmann Musetta in La Boheme, and Blöndschen in Mozart’s The Abduction from the Seraglio, Zerbinetta in Ariadne auf Naxos, The Dew Fairy in Hänsel and Gretel, Oscar in Un Ballo in Maschera and the roles of Belle FortuneandRachel Stitcher in the NYC Fringe Festival world premiere opera A.F.R.A.I.D., reprised at the Brooklyn Lyceum. Musical Theater roles include Johanna in Sweeney Todd and Sister Mary Leo in Nunsense. She completed the Dicapo Opera Seminar singing scenes as Despina and Blöndschen. Other solo concert work includes recitals in Connecticut and New York, Schütz’s “Christmas Oratorio,” Vivaldi’s “Gloria,” and Schubert’s “Mass in G.” She sang the New York premiere of “Michael Row the Boat Ashore,” for brass quintet and vocalist, and the New York City Premier of “We Are Dreamers,” a piece for Israel’s Fiftieth Birthday. She has been the soprano soloist for High Holy Days at The Emanuel Synagogue in West Hartford for ten years. She studies voice with Susan Eichhorn Young and is a music teacher at The Heschel School in New York City.
